Breakfast

Big Day

Morning!

Today is a big day for me. I’m keeping my fingers crossed! I’ll be sure to let you all know when I know any news!

This morning Ryan had a breakfast meeting here in Tampa so we got up early to work out together first. I ran a fast 2 miles on the upstairs treadmill then stretched a bunch. By fast, I mean that I ran at a 9:30 pace instead of a 10:50 pace. I’d like to have one of my weekly maintenance runs be “fast” so I can continue to improve upon my speed. Soon I’m going to have to start doing hill work! Eek!

Today I actually meet with my doctor to have a follow up for my orthotics. To be honest, I’m a little disappointed because I still have some discomfort. I think I had this fantasy in my head that I would have ZERO pain and truthfully, its a HUGE difference from before, but I can still sense a bit of discomfort. He might have to alter them or something this afternoon…I don’t know!

Before we headed upstairs I had a piece of Ezekiel toast with Naturally Nutty almond butter—

And when I was done I made a Green Monster!! 🙂

This sure was delicious and so frosty and fresh!!! For the first time I sampled the Pom Mango Amazing Meal and LOVED it. I think I even like it better than the chocolate!

I used:
  • 1 scoop Pom Mango Amazing Meal
  • 1/2 banana
  • 2 pieces frozen canteloupe (new tasty addition!)
  • 1 cup vanilla soymilk
  • about 3 cups fresh spinach
  • 1 spoonful trader joe’s peanut butter
  • ice

It was so summery tasting! A good break from chocolate for sure.

I have A LOT to do today! Better get to it

GAH!!!!!!! ITS THE DAY!!!!! A fast run was probably just what you needed to get some of the nerves out. Have you read any information on food combining dos and don’ts? I’m just curious if you have an opinion.
BTW- I agree with you on the butter in baking issue. People have been eating butter for ages. If you are active and healthy a little every once in a while is NOT going to kill you! 🙂 Everything in moderation, right?
Have a great day. I will be praying for your nerves!

Have you ever heard of zcoil shoes and sneakers? They are kind of funky looking, but have helped so many with foot pain and problems! Look them up and maybe give them a try! I have spoken to a few people who have tried them and all loved them!

You’re doing strength exercises for your shins, right? They will start working eventually and then you will have even less discomfort.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

I know you’re seeing a podiatrist for your feet stuff, but I just thought I’d weigh in here since I also used to have really bad shin splints. I’m also a pronator (ironically on my left side too!) so every time I would go to be fit for shoes they would want to put me into hard, stability shoes to stop the pronating. Two pair later I finally went to a New Balance store and decided to try a cushioning shoe with insoles and my shin splints went away! I’m not sure what kind of shoes you have, but maybe it’s possible that they are also the culprit. Sorry for the long personal story, but even on the off chance that it helps it would be worth looking into!

Oh, and I’m from Port Saint Lucie – so we grew up not far from each other before your family moved to Tampa 🙂

Glad you had a fun time in Madison. The summers are beautiful, and you’d learn to deal with the winters. Grew up in Florida and lived there until I was 23 so if I can do the Midwest winter thing, anyone can!

Have you thought about adding some tempo work or speed intervals into your training? That’s the best way to improve!

hey jenna- you may want to consider not running on the treadmill anymore. i am training for the nyc marathon now, and our coaches advocate running on soft, outdoor surfaces, such as a dirt or gravel path (as opposed to pavement or cement). it’s definitely easier on your body, and can help prolong your running career. one of my coaches said that running on the treadmill can be especially bad if you have an injury, because you are repeating the same movement over and over again in the exact same way, and are less likely to change speeds or the way your legs hit the treadmill. when you run outside, your rhythym is not quite as consistent and your gait changes when you run over different surfaces since the ground is not always even.

i’ve had a lot of problems with my foot the past few months, and now that i’ve stopped doing as much treadmill running and started running outside more- i’ve notice a HUGE difference!

anyway, just thought i would pass this info along and maybe it will help!

hope you hear some good news today!
