Gets Me Every Time
Nov 11th, 2009 by jenna
Morning!
I’m TIRED this morning! Thank goodness for extra strong french press coffee and SuperFood—a match made in heaven.
I was originally going to go to the gym before work but….yeah….I’m still here on the floor wrapped up in a quilt near my heater. I’m going to pack my gym clothes and hopefully make it after work. We’ll see. I’m a slacker, I know.
Breakfast was overnight oats—

- 1/2 cup oats soaked in 1/2 cup 1% milk
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 1 banana
- naturally more pb
- maple syrup
It was a little chilly for cold oatmeal but….tasty nevertheless.
To the winery I go!

Don’t you just love Naturally More PB? Don’t feel bad about bailing on the morning gym sesh, I did the same thing today. Seems to be in the air from coast to coast.
Sometimes it’s healthier to take some time to recover than to work out.
The photos are the wood floor are so gorgeous! I love ‘em!
Taking an off-day from the gym is nothing to be ashamed of. Trust me, over-doing it and then paying for it with an injury is a million times worse than “missing a workout”. I know from experience. Besides, you could always take a walk break at lunch time and exercise outside too! Don’t sweat it; no pun intended. Hahah.
Have a great day at the winery!
I haven’t had cold oats in a while… Your’s look great
Those oats sound great. I don’t do overnight oats because I think if I did I’d be anticipating them too much to sleep
Dear Jenna,
You are not a slacker. At all.
Love, Kristine
You poor thing! You need a comfy couch! Although I think I’ll miss the pics from the floor.
It’s so hard to get motivated to work out in the winter. That’s why I usually go at lunch!
Mmm I love overnight oats, even when hot oats would be better on a cold morning. Usually I pop them into the microwave for 30 seconds just to warm it up a bit.
I’ve never tried overnight oats! I’ll get to it one of these days…:)
I took the day off from the gym yesterday and I feel so much better today after I did. I had much more energy for this morning’s workout!
I am tired too!
Oh how I love my french press. It’s the perfect size for just me, and if I have guests over I can always make more in a quick second!
Have a wonderful day Miss Jenna~
Overnight oats are so delicious. I love how versatile oats are! Have a good day
I’ve never tried overnight oats. I’m curious. But these days it’s just so awesome having nice hot oatmeal.
I did the same things this morning — I was planning a workout but my body needed sleep.
I’m really tired today, too. For me, I think it is the miserable weather we are having.
Hope you have a nice day!
I was just thinking about how tired I am. I need to grab some coffee ASAP. I went to bed at 9:30 on Monday, which was amazing, but it’s clearly not carrying me through the rest of the week!
No worries on missing the gym this morning. It happens to all of us!
I did the same thing about the gym this morning. But thankfully it’s nice outside so I got out at lunchtime for a nice walk. I think that makes up for it
Have a fab day, Jenna. Congrats on the book deal – how wonderfully exciting!
I entered the Oikos content (http://domesticaffections.wordpress.com/2009/11/02/na-moo-ste/). The yoga-toga photo shoot was the best part! I LOVE Kripalu, and it’d be amazing to have a chance to visit (all expenses paid). Thanks for sharing the sweepstakes!
Jenna
What are your thoughts on adding protein powder to oats and cereal ? I have been testing off dairy for a trial time (not for long though) and usually have some very vegetarian-carbohydrate-heavy meals. What are your thoughts on making one meal much more protein-based by adding protein powder to the mix ?
can you only enter the contest if you have a blog?
Congrats on the book deal!! That’s so amazing!
Annnnd…still can’t get my head behind cold oats!! Give me cold cereal w/ milk or normal hot oats any day. Maybe someday I’ll come around…
Ironically, this morning was the first morning I have actually gotten up to work out. Sorry I took your mojo, Jenna!
I almost did, but didn’t and now have a splitting headache from exhaustion and am so out of it! LOL So I’m not sure it did me any good!
I definitely need to enter that contest… I need to get on it.
i have never tried overnight oats only the breaky cookie but that does sound great!!
jenna
I have been making the overnight oats and popping them in the microwave to warm them up and melt the almond butter! And I use some Agave to sweeten it up a bit! It makes it so easy to have a good quick breakfast!
Not sure exactly how I enter the sweepstakes! How do I email my post? Guess I will have to post again anyway!
I woke up sick today and didn’t want to move out of bed!
My job is absolutely INSANE! I do yoga in my tiny little apartment each night to help – it is the one thing that really relaxes me and helps me release all the built up stress.
i haven’t exercised in weeks. don’t worry about it
have you seen the documentary mondovino? it’s fascinating, all about the wine industry.
Its okay to take a break sometimes! I need to practice what I preach.
have a good day at work, at the job we’re all insanely jealous of!!
Oh my, I’ve only done yoga once and I was so sore!
I’d still love the trip, what better way to learn more about the practice I find really intrigueing!
Ah, I still can’t get over how gorgeous your floors are in all of these pics. And yumm overnight oats.
I love to creamy Oikos yogurt and add my own homemade granola (recipe from Polly:). Mix and enjoy!! Would be perfect after enjoying a great yoga class.
Thanks for the opportunity, Jenn!

I agree with others that I think the food photos on the floor are very cool. I’ll be sad when you get a table.
Just kidding.
Alright, I have to admit- working at a winery sounds so rad!
I’d like to tell you what an inspiration you are. I’m so happy for you and am in awe of all of the endeavors you have and are yet to conquer! I will be first at the bookstore to buy your book!
I’ve read your blog for what seems like ages and I can’t wait for it!!!
I’m not easily awoken for the gym. I tend to hit it after work instead of before.
Who needs a table when you have gorgeous wood floors? : )
Jenna! I’m so sorry I haven’t commented lately. Things have been crazy. But I am SO SO SO SO proud and excited for you and your book deal. You deserve the utmost happiness. I love your passion; you inspire me daily.
God bless!
Heather
Hey Jenna, for those yummy looking overnight oats, what did you put together the night before, and what did you add in the a.m.? Thanks for your help!
Re: Retreat
1. I need to relax and say “Ohm,” because the 18 rambunctious boys and 4 active girls that fill my classroom with multi-faceted fun and challenges as a first grade teacher remind me of this each day! We even do a little yoga (informally, of course – we call it a ’shake break’) in the afternoons to get ‘extra wiggles’ out…
I am also balancing teaching with grad school courses, and have found that yoga has become a daily habit, whether it be 10 minutes or 80! The retreat would be a welcome reprieve from the job that I simultaneously love, and that simultaneously pushes me beyond my limits…I would love the opportunity to reflect, recharge, and refocus!

Wow, reading through these comments was super helpful! I was JUST wondering whether people ate overnight oats cold or warmed them up a bit. I don’t think I could do cold oatmeal!
Oh, totally forgot to say….your new profile pic is SO cute! What a great shot of you!
I enjoy reading your adventures in CA.
Relax and enjoy everything along the way okay?
Jenna,
I have to say that I really respect your attitude toward working out. I have followed your blog for over a year now and just love how you see it in such a moderate light and how it changes as you move through different phases in your life. You have gone through periods of time when you have been super in to exercise and have trained for races and exercised almost every single day no matter what. Now you are going through a time where it isn’t as big of a part of your life. Although this bothers you sometimes, I think it is really cool that you keep a great attitude about it and just do your best, considering your injury (and past injuries) and the current state of your lifestyle.
I admire that and strive to keep a good attitude like that as well. I am traveling a ton for work right now and am finding it difficult sometimes to get in as much exercise as I would like. I think of you sometimes! It is great to read about all of this on your blog

Overnight oats are my favorite! Although you’re right, some mornings are just too cold and you need a warm steaming bowl of oats instead!
I was going to go to the gym at 7 but yeah, I am still all snuggled up in my hotel room bed
You make overnight oats sound SO good. I still haven’t tried them, though! Unless you count breakfast cookies…
I need to relax because college is SO stressful, especially now because professors are trying to cram all the last minute stuff in before the end of the semester–a getaway would be heavenly!
Overnight oats:
The night before, combine a half cup oats with a half cup milk. Set in fridge.
In the morning, add the yogurt, nut butter and banana.
Dig in!
Thanks, Jenna! I’ve never tried my overnight oats this way, but it sounds interesting and delicious! I appreciate your help!
Thanks for the great contest….do you have to have your own blog to enter though??
I don’t have a blog, but I love to read others! In case I can still enter the contest, here is my Fall favorite: mix a single serve plain Oikos yogurt cup with pure pumpkin, cinnamon, pumpkin granola and a bit of maple syrup. Mmmm – so good!

I need to relax because the other day I went to class without my textbook. Or my notebook. Or my KEYS! I need to Ohm, for sure!
Is that picture on your floor or a table?? I love the rustic look of it nonetheless
I work at Kripalu and would love one of you to come visit me, haha!
