I happen to love that some of the chocolates have “bites” taken out of them. I never can follow those guides that come in the box. Let’s be hones half the time I lose them when I tear the thing apart. I’m a chocoholic that loves to taste everything. Even if it isn’t particularly good–I like to live on the wild side.
That’s a very thought-provoking question in this holiday week. A very good question too, and I’m glad you know the answer. What’s so interesting is how we evolve over time. It’s fascinating how some things never change, and some things intensify with age. Self-discovery is an amazing journey.
Last year when my boyfriend and I had a huge fight (and I thought we were breaking up),I bought and ate two boxes of Godiva in less than three days. It was….awesome.
Apparently, I first took the question much more seriously than everyone else. That’s my tendency — to be serious. If we’re talking chocolates, I’m the truffle variety… or the caramel.
You and I were on the same page with looking a little deeper. When I read Jenna’s question I definitely wasn’t thinking about what kind of chocolate I
am 😉
Hahahaha I thought the same thing! Chocolate-wise, I’m chocolate coconut, as no one else likes it and I hate to leave it by its lonesome. On a deeper level, I’m definitely the same in some capacity. I love making people feel loved, even if it’s just a piece of lonely chocolate 🙂
i prefer the thumb nail in the bottom trick… that way i don’t have to taste ones i don’t like AND i can trick my husband into thinking they haven’t been touched!! 😉
I love “one-bite-taste-tests” I could never commit to just one whole piece 🙂 But I would grab the mint-lookin’ one for my Mister…
love,
cathy b.
p.s.your posts make me smile 🙂
That is totally what I do, too. It’s like I have a commitment problem. I don’t want the whole thing if it’s going to be bad, but just a taste to test it out is good.
I must be crazy….because the first thing I thought of when I saw your blog post today…was…you okay????…bad day???….who hurt your feelings????…..until I read all the other comments…..:)…I feel like I’m taking crazy pills….the double strength kind today…..
Why is it, that only 25 percent of all chocolate boxes are filled with the good stuff? Maybe someone knew us girls would eat entire boxes if all the chocolate was actually good. They were just looking out for us.
I am currently eating super chunky SKIPPY peanut butter. This is very unlike myself, for i only eat all natural. But I am in my boyfriend’s apartment, I found it in his fridge and by golly….it’s hitting the spot.
That’s my current moment.

Mmmm… Godiva is so so so good, it can make any day a thousand times better.
Jenna! Love your site! any suggestions on a pecan pie quick? I’m sorta desperate, wanna impress the family, and something about frozen store bought just doesn’t seem to fit the bill.
Jenna, I take a bite out of every single chocolate in the box. It is disgusting and awesome and makes me miss living alone sometimes…. sitting on the couch with a box of chocolate in hand thoughtfully taking a little taste of each one!
I love that everybody has ignored the existential side of that question and gone straight for the chocolate; that’s a sign that you have lots of female readers! Me? Anything with an orange or strawberry filling. Or…. a happy Aussie living in London. 🙂
I’m not really a big fan of the box of chocolates (picky eater) but there is a story I like to tell my girlfriends about chocolate. It was told to me during those ever impressionable, sometimes over-dramatic high school years by my friend’s mother. We were on the subject of boys (aren’t we always, no matter the age?) and she said to us, “You know, guys and relationships are kind of like a box of chocolates. There are so many to choose from. Some of them are beautiful, some are mysterious, but the lure of them is taking a bite and seeing what’s inside. Too often, we think trying something that looks delicious is what we’re after. Then, we take a bite and spit it out. After awhile, you learn all you were after the whole time was the one with caramel on the inside. Simple, sweet, satisfying caramel.”
Ever since, we’ve always joked about finding our “caramel.” Coincidentally, that’s the only one I never spit out.
Happy Thanksgiving!!
And PS I think I speak for everyone when I say you totally found your caramel, Jenna.
I love that almost all of the pieces have bites taken out. That is the exact way my boxes of chocolate look!!! I am orange truffle covered in dark chocolate. 🙂
wait…I got that wrong…it was , “I know YOU are, but what am I?”
Now I’m the one who is busted.

I usually nibble each one until I find maple cream with walnut… and sadly if it does not exist I settle for Vanilla cream…. something about the frosting like center gets me every time…
Choc covered almond-clusters or choc fudge w/lot of nuts so feel have some nutrition w/treat….& just get a tiny white bag with 4 pieces at the very most once every 2-3 months. Am very disciplined as a result of Catholic Girl’s school & the nuns preaching moderation. Plus, that’s the French way~savor a small amount. OK. Confess that also save calories to splurge on pasta & wine. Which, so it happens, is happening tonight. 😉
Milk chocolate with caramel and nuts in the middle. I’m bite into every single one just to see what it is 🙂

When I read this I automatically thought deeper. I am 22 and constantly searching for who I really am.
On the subject of chocolate, My mom and I have always gone through the box with a butter knife and cut them in half. Then we go through and nibble through the halves to make it last longer. 🙂

Cause this is what this post reminded me of.
The contestants has to create their own box of chocolates portraying
the lost important points in their lives.
You can also stick a toothpick in the bottom to try and figure out what kind it is. It’s a little less evasive than a knife, but you can only do it a couple times before people tell you just to grab one and eat the damn thing.
