Mind Over Matter

February 16, 2010

Good afternoon!

Unfortunately I’m not on my A-game today. My headache hasn’t gone away and I’m a wee bit worried that my superhuman immunity is wearing down and I’m getting whatever funky virus is going around. Not good. I rarely ever get sick (I don’t think I’ve been sick in about a year and a half!) but when I do…I fall HARD. A few years ago I had to be hospitalized for a week with mono, tonsilitus and pneumonia!

Regardless, this morning I snacked on a little trail mix then headed to the studio to work out outside with the girls! We followed more of a Crossfit plan….not sure how my legs will be feeling tomorrow after 150 air squats!

We did 3 sets of each without any rest in between:

15 jumping jacks

30 push-ups

30 dips

50 air squats

40 crunches

After working out, I headed around the corner to Trader Joe’s to stock up on some fruit since my fridge is pretty bare. I also grabbed these spring rolls + a banana and some juice for a late lunch:

When I got home, I relaxed for a little while in the sweet sunshine with Ketchum, my neighbor’s cute puppy!

This week keeps getting busier and busier by the moment so I’m reallyyyyyy trying not to get sick. Time to crank out a few hours of writing!

I hope your cold doesn’t evolve into something gnarly, Jenna! I was knocked out most of last week with an awful cold…it was rotten. Rest up as much as possible and keep juicing it! The sunshine should help as well.

Those spring rolls look delicious.

Stay well! Defense smoothie is a great play. Rest and relaxation are the sickness antidote!

Maybe it’s just bad PMS?? Boost up your iron, Vit C and water intake.

Take it easy so you don’t get sick!
That workout sounds simple, but I bet it was really intense (especially the third time around)! I’m going to give it a shot tomorrow – but a modified version.. :)

Oh no! Yoga’s very good for the immune system.

Feel better soon! :D

I always take echinacea when I feel like I’m getting sick, it normally knocks it out!

I had a headache last night and this morning – pretty sure it was caused by my laziness in not drinking enough water after swimming!! Also, the snow plough/blower at 2am didn’t help either :) Hope you’re feeling better this morning! I’ve been experimenting with a teaspoon of straight up cod liver oil this winter. My mum used to do it all the time when we were growing up and was hardly ever sick – hopefully it’s having the same effect!!

Meghan February 17, 2010 at 9:57 am

Jenna,

I saw the workout you were planning and definitely thought CROSSFIT immediately. I’m so excited to read that you’re interested in it. I’ve been doing it steadily for about a year and have never been stronger or happier with my appearance and abilities. I strongly, STRONGLY recommend researching it and giving it a try. The mainpage workouts can be intimidating, so please look into scaling via Crossfit BrandX, or looking into working at your local Crossfit affiliate. Please don’t hesitate to email me or drop by my blog if you have questions. It’s new, so I’ve lots to post but I would welcome your visit!

Your workout sounds intense! I don’t think I could do all of that 3 times (especially the push ups and dips!).

Those spring rolls look really good – I really wish we had them in Canada!
