Online Shopping Just Got Better

December 1, 2009

Hey guys!

So, I’m looking back over the food I ate today and it’s SUPER random. Don’t hate–just one of those days I guess!

This morning I went to an awesome spinning class. It was so funny–the instructor was this super cute pregnant woman and instead of being on the bike, she roamed around the room the whole time, shouting and encouraging us while blasting truly amazing music. I’m convinced the secret to spinning is music, no?! :)

When I got home, I tried take 2 on protein ice cream.

IMG_2505

Unfortunately, it was more of a backfire than I anticipated. I used waaaay too much ice and therefore it was more like a flavorless shaved ice than anything else. I ate it anyway though and then I was super cold and stood under a hot shower for 20 minutes to defrost. Oh well. Note to self: next time don’t add entire tray of ice creams.

Lunch was a big salad with 2 chopped soy hot dogs and a light babybel cheese topped with hummus and hot sauce with kabocha (!!!) and an orange on the side.

I’ve determined that kabocha squash expands in my belly like none other and I was too full to finish my orange at the end of my meal! Rarely do I not clean my plate so that’s sayin’ something right there.

This afternoon I ran errands and lusted after MacBook Pros at the apple store. I know I need a new laptop but can’t decide to get a new MacBook or upgrade to a MacBook Pro. I’m definitely a mac kind of girl…no PCs allowed in this house. Thoughts?

Snack was an unpictured Pure Bar…I figure y’all have seen them all before. ;)

And dinner was pretty random, too….but surprisingly incredibly delicious!

IMG_2510

I’m here to tell you tonight that there are three things that can go on anything: hummus, almond butter and hot sauce. Just don’t combine the three together. ;) This would be an omelet with 3 egg whites, 1 yolk smothered in hummus and hot sauce with MORE squash. Yes, more. It was literally calling my name from the fridge and I had to eat it. I think I’m addicted. Especially when it’s cold!!! Anyways, hummus on eggs is delicious if you’ve never tried it.

I took Caitlin’s advice and had a glass of wine while I wrote….Caitlin, you were right—wine makes the words flow! ;)

IMG_2515

And then I ate a pear with almond butter and chocolate chips. Again, almond butter goes on anything. Done and done.

Let me introduce y’all to the Michel-Schlumberger 2009 Holiday Catalog!

I’ve received countless emails from you guys, asking for my wine advice or what I recommend. Well, here you go! By ordering from our catalog, you can get a taste of what I taste daily here in Healdsburg. All the items in the catalog are extremely discounted AND you will receive free shipping as well on anything you order. We don’t distribute very heavily so this is an easy and convenient way to enjoy our wines.

We produce world class, organic wine here at Michel-Schlumberger and are best known for our big, bold Cabernets. Ten percent of the proceeds from catalog sales go to the Healdsburg Education Foundation, supporting vital programs in our local public schools. If you are ever in the winery, we also donate half of the sales from tours and tastings to the same foundation because we feel so strongly about it.

What are my favorites?

Everything! I’m more of a red wine girl and I just loooooove our 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon, Deux Terres and Pinot Noir. If you like Pinots, ours is really special because we are actually the only Pinot Noir producer in all of Dry Creek Valley here. It’s what I love to give to guests to wow them because you can really taste the terroir (earth, sun, wind, rain…) in the wine and it’s very unique and complex. The Pinot Blanc is a SUPER light white wine and perfect for those interested in diving into wine but a little scared. It’s really light and easy to drink….I always recommend it to wine newbies. ;)

We’ve set up a special promo code especially for you guys on the site, so when you order, type in Jenna in the tab for special offers when you check-out.

Bad news is we can’t ship to Kentucky, Maryland, Tennessee, Utah, Massachusetts or King of Prussia, PA (don’t ask).

Click here to start shopping now! :)

Do you read Gizmodo? It’s a tech website. They recommended getting the MacBook but NOT the MacBook Pro- the MB Pro is not enough of an upgrade to justify the higher price.

This is the link to one of their latest posts on it:

I just got a macbook pro and am loving it!! Highly recommend it :)

Jen December 2, 2009 at 5:15 am

I love, love, love my MacBook Pro. I bought it refurbished (3 years ago) from the Apple site at a deep discount, bought the warranty, and have had only a few simple problems that the Genius Bar at the store has quickly fixed for me. I would never buy another computer!

Pam December 2, 2009 at 5:18 am

Awe, Jenna….just relax, girl….just remember to….’B YOURSELF!’….it’s that simple!….now go get’em!

Enjoy!

Sarah @ See Sarah Eat December 2, 2009 at 5:27 am

No shipping to Kentucky, waaaaah :(

You are totally right about almond butter, hummus and hot sauce. They do go on everything!

Lizzie December 2, 2009 at 5:33 am

Ages ago I thought Macs were dumb, I didn’t know how to use one and didn’t really care to learn. Fast forward 5 years and now I can’t use Windows b/c all I use is a Mac. LOVE them! I have a Macbook Pro 15 inch, because I need it for work (video editing). If you want to save some dosh, I would probably just look at a MacBook since you’re pretty much just going to be writing, surfing the web, and uploading photos onto it. Figures that you can’t ship to Mass – the only repealed the no selling of alcohol on Sundays law a couple of years ago!! :)

Jill December 2, 2009 at 5:34 am

Hi Jenna. Not to be cranky or ungrateful or anything, but for some reason when I try to order from your catalog, I am being charged shipping. I did apply the “Jenna” code and got the wee discount, but the shipping charges still apply. Did I read incorrectly that there would be no shipping charges?
Confused.

mary ann December 2, 2009 at 5:40 am

I was wondering if you save your yolks when making egg white omelets. I remember being in France and my friend wanted egg whites and they were like, for meringue?!! haha. They said that theyd be delighted as the yolks would make a lovely creme brulee. Not that Id be upset if you just discarded them, but did France have a waste not-want not effect on how you live today?

Meg December 2, 2009 at 5:44 am

Hi Jenna, I see a few people have already asked–but I am wondering about the shipping charges for the wine as well. I’d love to order some, but I’m in VA and $30 for shipping is a little steep!
Also, I invested in a Macbook last year and I love it–just thought I’d add my two cents on that subject!
Love your blog!!

Kasey @ Fit For Wellness December 2, 2009 at 5:48 am

I’m more of a red wine girl too! I go for white more often during the hot New Orlean’s summers.

Kristie Lynn December 2, 2009 at 5:53 am

Same question here as some others have had – is there something wrong with the discount code? $26 for shipping and a penny off isn’t exactly in my price range :(

Maura December 2, 2009 at 5:54 am

I was totally bummed when I read that you can’t ship to Mass! Definitely should work on that ;) haha. Have a lovely day everyone!

justrun December 2, 2009 at 6:05 am

You are so right about spinning and music. It’s the difference between having to grit it out and the time passing quickly. Well, as quickly as it can pass on a spin bike. :)

As for the MacBook vs. Pro debate, of course you’ll be happy with either but unless you’re going to need a lot more power and memory, I’d stick with the MacBook and then get an external hard drive for all your photos. That is what I did and I use my MacBook for similar things as you probably do (writing, photo processing, Internet, music/iTunes). Having that external hard drive for photos will save a TON of memory in the long run and really reduce the need for the more powerful Pro, in my opinion.

Gillian December 2, 2009 at 6:08 am

I am a graphic designer and have used Macs for the past 10 years. A MacBook Pro for anyone who doesn’t process mass amounts of graphics (ie. super high res layered psd files and the such) is spending far too much money for what they need. If I were you Jenna, I would stick to the regular MacBook and save yourself the extra $$. The MacBook is an incredibly good laptop and will MORE then be able to handle blogging and photo purposes. Just buy an external hard drive to pull your photos off onto every so often so they don’t eat up tons of memory on your computer which will slow it down!

Joelle (The Pancake Girl)) December 2, 2009 at 6:11 am

Mmm almond butter on top of a pear with chocolate chips? Delightful!

Beth @ DiningAndDishing December 2, 2009 at 6:28 am

I am addicted to kabocha squash lately too! (and the skins!!) I made a version the other day with maple, soy sauce, cinnamon, sugar and cayene. Super interesting and very delish :O).

Heather (Sugar & Spice Blog) December 2, 2009 at 6:30 am

Hi Jenna -
I love my Mac Book Pro and I highly recommend it! I’ve been a MAC girl since 3rd grade, and my Mac Book Pro is my favorite one yet! Good luck shopping :)

Rose December 2, 2009 at 6:38 am

I vote Macbook Pro. I love my Mac – but I often wished I had upgraded.

Erin December 2, 2009 at 6:40 am

I loooveeee my Macbook. I was a PC girl before that and I don’t think I’ll ever go back!

I’ve never had hummus with eggs. Looks great. And that is really awesome that the company supports an educational foundation. Gotta love good corporate citizenship!!

brandi December 2, 2009 at 6:45 am

I agree about kabocha expanding – it’s so filling!

Ali @ Food, Fitness, Fashion December 2, 2009 at 6:45 am

Everything looks good! I have never tried hummus on egg, I will have to next time I make eggs. I have found wine does help with writing, I think it will help get me through my final paper I need to write this weekend!

Jil December 2, 2009 at 6:46 am

Those meals look delicious!! I am obsessed with hot sauce on eggs (and on pretty much anything, really). And the pear/almond butter/chocolate chip combo looks amazing.

Lauren @ Eater not a runner December 2, 2009 at 6:51 am

That pear with almond butter looks heavenly :-) And I love my macbook so much. Love love love.

Laura Georgina December 2, 2009 at 6:52 am

Poor King of Prussia–wonder why places can’t ship there (it’s not the first time I’ve seen them blacklisted for shipping purposes)?

Computer shopping can be so much fun! I have a very standard laptop PC but would like to get a new one this year and hope it will be the year of the Mac for me, fingers crossed! Can’t wait to see what you pick and see how it goes….

skinnyrunner December 2, 2009 at 6:55 am

protein ice cream? yes please! well, stuff that tastes yummu.

Paige (Running Around Normal) December 2, 2009 at 6:56 am

I completely agree that the music makes the spinning class. Well, music and instructor ;)
You really do love your squash, don’t you!? I love it, too.
Thanks for all those wine recs. That online store is awesome.

Evan Thomas December 2, 2009 at 7:13 am

I love your lunch! I was on a random squash kick yesterday, too. I craved an acorn squash for a snack

Light Delight with TouTou December 2, 2009 at 7:34 am

Ice cream in the morning??? I wanna do that too!

Heather McD (Heather Eats Almond Butter) December 2, 2009 at 7:37 am

Tennessee and our bizarre liquor laws. :(

Yes, a totally random day of eats, but I LOVED them all. Been there with the icy protein ice cream. I find that two fistfuls of ice is best, and yes, kabocha totally expands in the belly. Funny – it knows both of our names, b/c it calls me from the fridge too. ;)

Hummus is awesome on eggs, and almond butter is awesome on everything else. Although, I have been loving chipotle almond butter on my eggs lately. So good!

Katie December 2, 2009 at 8:45 am

Hey Jenna!
I have a macbook (the silver metal one) and I really have enjoyed it! Someone told me that if you’re not doing a lot editing for videography then the pro isn’t really necessary! Obviously you should get what’s best for you but I know pro’s a few hundred extra so maybe it could save you some mula!

Cassie December 2, 2009 at 8:53 am

I’m going through the same MacBook/Pro dilemma. I have a MacBook now and I think I’m leading towards getting a Pro. Everyone that I know who has them says that it is worth it and especially since you spend so much time on the computer, I’d say go for it!

Neal December 2, 2009 at 9:39 am

I love your blog!

I just wanted to comment and say to spend the extra $ (it’s not much…) for a Macbook Pro over the Macbook. The aluminum and glass are simply magnificent.

Keep up the tasteful cooking and drinking! :)

Diana Par-Due December 2, 2009 at 10:24 am

mmmm, that salad looks amazing. I use hot sauce and hummus all the time as dressing! ha, my sisters say I have a dangerous addiction to hot sauce and need help. haha

Julie @savvyeats December 2, 2009 at 10:44 am

Ha, the states you can’t ship to seems like a very random list :)

Angela @ A Healthy Fit December 2, 2009 at 10:50 am

I love my MacBook. I actually got it before the Pro came out, but mine has all the same features…weird. My husband just bought the pro and loves it!

I LOVE hummus and egg whites as well. I made a wrap for lunch with the m the other day with some hot sauce and lettuce in it. yummers!

Lizzie December 2, 2009 at 10:54 am

I just had to replace my macbook and chose to get the new macbook pro instead of a regular macbook. My justification was that they’re not really that much more expensive than when I bought my macbook, and even if the prices of the macbook have gone down, I kind of felt like I deserved an upgrade.
The new macbook pros are great, and I would highly recommend them.
Good luck with the book!

Anne December 2, 2009 at 11:04 am

I have a 15″ Macbook Pro, and I love it! It’s lightweight and very sleek…I got it summer of 2006 and I haven’t my hard drive crash or anything!

Lisa (bakebikeblog) December 2, 2009 at 1:42 pm

I use hot sauce all the time!!! I agree that it goes perfectly with pretty much everything :)

Amanda@thegrainsofparadise December 2, 2009 at 3:13 pm

Aloha, My MAC notebook only lasted 1 year. I started having issues with it within 8 months. It totally died on me right after my 1 year warrenty ran out! The logic board went out ( I guess that happens a lot with MAC according to the guys at the local service department. They said it would be $700 to fix it….
I just purchased a Sony Vaio and it’s enroute to Maui:-) I’m not done with MAC though….I’m trying to see if they will help me out since the notebook started getting squirrely within a year…who knows.
Anyway….that my 2 cents. Good Luck:-) A

Amy December 2, 2009 at 6:18 pm

You should check out powermax. I just bought my Mac desktop through there and they bought my old Macbook Pro for almost $1000! You might be able to trade your macbook in for a pro. They’d let you buy the pro so you can transfer your files over and then send them you’re macbook and they’ll credit the money back to your credit card. It’s based in Oregon so it would probably be a quick turnover for you. I’d really recommend it. They have either new, refurbished, or used macs for sale. :)

Jess (What's Normal, Anyways?) December 2, 2009 at 7:27 pm

I love Harvey- my Macbook Pro. It’s one of the best investments I’ve made in my adult life thus far!

Carly December 2, 2009 at 11:33 pm

Macbook for sure… The glass on the Macbook Pro is super expensive to fix if it breaks and is not covered under the warranty… I have been suck on butternut squash but will be switching to the Kabocha! Either way I love my macbook and I-phone!

The Healthy Apple December 3, 2009 at 11:47 am

Yummy squash…that looks delishy, Jenna.
