Spinach Monster

Happy Tuesday!

How goes it? I am feeling incredibly energized and full of life after a gigantic Green Monster this morning!

IMG_0685.JPG

Combo this morning included:

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 scoop Sun Warrior brown rice protein
  • 1 scoop naturally more pb
  • 1 cup almond breeze
  • 4 cups organic spinach
  • big handful fresh blueberries

I loved the addition of the blueberries! This Green Monster was delish-nutrish. However, Ryan was not thrilled because there was no spinach left for his Green Monster and he had to use the last of the kale, which is just not as good. He was quite frustrated that I finished off the entire bag of spinach but I assured him I would buy more today so he could have his ultimate green smoothie tomorrow. Little did Ryan know three years ago that he would soon be drinking his green every morning and filling up on almond milk and fresh veggies. Muhahaha 😉

Of course after chugging down the smoothie I was shivering in my bones so I made a nice, hot cup of Tazo apricot white tea to warm up:

I’m getting ready to head to the gym now for a combo of elliptical and swimming. Then, at noon, I am meeting my mom for lunch for some Vietnamese lovin’. See you in a bit!

Lovin’ the green monster, of course! 😀

For the kale, do you add stems and all? I’ve noticed that when I add the stems, it’s kind of bitter and “green” tasting. But without the stems, it’s more similair to the spinach. 😀

Have fun at lunch with your mom!!

I’m surprised your berries didn’t turn the smoothie brown! 🙂 Mine always do. But that looks great, I might try that exact recipe.

-That is so great Ryan drinks the monsters too. Once you go GREEN, you never go back, right?

Blueberries are so delicious in green smoothies! Blackberries are also so yummy! You should try freezing them overnight… it makes the smoothie somewhat thicker and (I think) more tasty. And that’s hilarious about Ryan. You taught him well! 😀

4 CUPS???????????????????? Are you serious? you said it was only 2. who needs 4 cups anyway? what the hell, kale tastes like crap compared to the spinach! From now on I will refer to them as Greedy Monsters for hogging all the spinach dammit! Kale blows!

That is too funny that Ryan is hooked on the spinach! I don’t think my boyfriend would everrr even want to attempt that. Ryan is definitely a keeper! 🙂 Have a pretty day!

I got the green monster bug! Hubby is looking on in an interested way but I am lucky. He will eat whatever is put in front of him! Just wanted to ask, why frozen banana? For the chill of it? I just use a regular one?! ok one other thing. Do you read or know of any blogs similar in ethos based in the UK? I can’t get my paws on a lot of the brands that you enjoy, over here in Scotland. I bought some almond milk at the weekend. £2.35 for a litre. YIKES! Compared to under £1 for soya milk, might not be a habit I want to take up.

Hi Jenna. I’d like to apologize for the weird question left in your comments last night about you and Ryan. That was not from ME, but one of my lovely (sometimes immature) guy friends who was over last night. I left my laptop open to your blog, and when he used my computer, he apparently felt it necessary to leave a dumb comment on your blog. Sorry! I would never ask a question like that myself. I love your blog and think you and Ryan are cute together!

haha the only reason ya’ll like spinach so much is because you CANT taste it in the GM! Kale has hella stronger taste but if you put less and a touch of agave, it’s not too bad! And I always think it’s much better to switch things up a bit to get the nutrition your body needs. haha too funny with ryan’s comments.

Hehe boys just try to seem macho, but really can learn to love the same stuff we do (green smoothies?!).

I tend to get cold easily, especially in the morning too, but I’m going to try drinking a green monster for breakfast sometime, and maybe drink some hot tea afterwards ;).

    June 9, 2009 at 11:42 am

Haha sounds like you’ve definitely got Ryan hooked on the Monsters, awesome! Regarding the kale, I agree with one of the other commenters – if you cut the stems out, the kale isn’t as bitter. Maybe give that a shot? 🙂

It’s so nice when your SO likes the healthy stuff! When I started my “lifestyle change” my husband wasn’t so into it. Finally one day I sat him down and told him the way he eats I’m afraid I’m going to be a widow in my forties. He’d already started gaining and went up to 210 lbs. You’d think for someone who is 6’3″ that’s not overweight but it was. He said he’d try harder and I try hard to make food he’ll enjoy. Since then he’s lost 10 lbs and I’ve lost 20. Last night when I made grilled zucchini, cordon bleu’s and potatoes, he ate the zucchini first- I was so proud 😀 He says he’s looking forward to FISH tonight! FISH! This coming from a man who swore he always hated fish! 😀
