The Pounding in my Head
Dec 17th, 2009 by jenna
Good morning!
Thanks for all y’alls sweet comments last night regarding my migraine.
Unfortunately it was a BAD one…probably the worst I’ve had in a very long time. I finally took two excedrin migraine around 10:00, watched Walk the Line (best movie ever) and then fell asleep around midnight with ice packed on my forehead. Hot. Woke up this morning still with the headache, took two more excedrin migraine, drank some black tea, laid down with MORE ice on my head and now I’m feeling a little bit better…finally. Ugh is right. And blackberry is apparently down, which is a whole other headache in itself. Wasn’t life so much simpler pre-cellphone? Ahh the good ol’ days.
I knew I would feel better if I ate something substantial even though I felt so icky!

Glad you’re feeling a bit better Jenna. Take it easy today my friend, and I hope Dave helps.
That is such a bummer, and I certainly hope you feel better! Have fun with the Dave podcast!
Hang in there. Hope you are feeling better
This may be a stupid question but you don’t think the migraines are casued by the hot Bikram yoga, do you?
I also love Walk The Line! So good!
I was just thinking the same thing as Krista. Do you wonder if its from the Bikram? I really hope you feel better!
Hope you feel better after some yoga!!! So sorry your headache is so bad!!
Hope you feel better!
Walk the line is one of my favorite movies!
Feel better soon!
Feel better!!! I get migraines too so I understand how debilitating they can be. Give yourself the extra TLC you need and deserve today
)
Feel better Jenna! I’ve suffered from migraines my whole life so I know what you’re going through. Take it easy today.
Aw, hope you feel better by the weekend!
aww sounds awful
Hope the yoga helps!
I get migraines often too. I know you said it wasn’t because of hot yoga and that may be true but the dehydration of hot yoga probably does not HELP the migraine. I know you’re already drinking water but drink more especially if you’re doing the hot yoga.
I also particularly like “rabbit pose” for headaches.
Aww, hope you get better!
Glad you’re feeling a bit better and hope you have full recovery soon!
I am so sorry you had such a long night! =(
I feel your pain! I suffer from migraines as well and have passed it on to my kids:(
Relax and let the body heal!
So sorry about your migraine, but I’m very happy to see you getting back into yoga. My favorite times are when you’re running and doing yoga a lot!
Migraines suck. I don’t know if you have health insurance but if you do I would suggest going to the doctor and getting some real migraine medicine. It’s AMAZING.
Hope you feel better!
Good food helps and stay hydrated.
I should try that Dave guy…hmmm. Now just need time
I hope you feel better! Take care of yourself!
I hope you start feeling better! I’m with you on Walk the Line, it just might be the best movie ever. I saw Waitress last night, have you seen it? It’s quirky and cute and has a lot of pies, I think you would like it.
Ugh, I get horrible migraines too and they’re the worst! I hope your head starts feeling better soon!
Ouch! Hope your feeling better. If it’s just a cold coming on Bikram always makes me feel better. Recently I was coming down with a cold and sounded scratchy before class. Came out perfectly fine. Strange what Bikram can do. We always joke at the studio that Bikram cures everything! Hope your feeling much better today Jenna!
MAN – your oatmeal bowls always look so amazing.
Sorry you’re still not feeling great. I hope you find some relief soon!
ugh. i feel your pain sista. i have been diagnosed with chronic migraines as well. changes in barometric pressure is a HUGE trigger for me. I hope you are feeling better today. I know it will take almost all of today before you feel yourself again. As for Imitrex, i only tried it once and had a horrible reaction to it. I am currently on Midrin which has been much easier on my body. Something to consider if you ever go back to prescribed drugs (not that i would ever advocate for them… i tried many other things first).
Migraines are the worst! A day away from hot yoga would probably be a good thing. Recovery is always so important.
YOU NEED A MASSAGE!!
I have been getting migranes for the last 2 years, a cool new feature of hitting 21. The only thing that really helps me is a message. It breaks up all the tension in your neck and head, seriously worth the money! You can even google massage schools local to you, where students practice, and it is usually very discounted. You might even need to go a few times, you are probably tight from all the working out! GOOD LUCK
Glad you’re doing better. Aren’t they exhausting!? Take it easy.
I’m suffering from the Blackberry issue too!!!
A nice hearty breakfast always perks me up, no matter how crappy I feel. Especially when I have yogurt for some reason. Just tastes wholesome and restorative. Hopefully, you’re on the mend!
Hope you start to feeling 100% soon!
Blackberry is driving me nuts today. My light will not stop blinking and I have all light notifications turned off. My only guess is that it has something to do with the blackberry issues. sigh.
enjoy dave! He always make me feel 100% better!
I hope you feel better. Yeah, Walk The Line is a great movie. I remember watching it one evening when I was both physically and mentally low and I just “fell’ into it. Cheers.

Feel better darling!!! Rest up!
Go triangulate. Feel better!
Hope you feel better soon. I hate migraines! Try putting heat on your head too!
GLAd you are feeling better, Jenna!!! those oats look FANTASTIC! so pretty too with the Pom arils!
Totally feel your pain. I’ve had migraines my entire life. Usually triggered by my chocolate allergy (yes, its as terrible as it sounds) and stress. I finally started using a medication called Maxalt and it literally is a miracle drug. You take one at the onset of your migraine and it just never shows up. Absolute life saver. Not sure if you’re into that sorta thing, but talk to your doc if you’re looking for something stronger than Excedrin. I hiiiighly recommend it!
I got migraines for 2 months when I was applying to college. After I heard that I got into a school, they stopped! Purely stress induced – which is so insane. Are yours caused by anything in particular?
I also take Maxalt and it seems to help. For something more natural Don Quai is supposed to work wonders.
hope your feeling better! Massages really do help! I am a life long migraine sufferer- I use a combo of preventative, abortive meds, yoga, clean diet, lots of water, and herbs, massage etc… ( and lots of laughter) to combat mine- but you have to do what works for you! I would love to not be on the meds!
“Legs up the wall” (an inversion) is also great! basically laying down and and hold your legs straight up in the air or put them up against a wall.
Hope you feel better soon dear.
Sorry about the migraine … that does NOT sound pleasant!
Relaxxxxx …. easier said than done. Take time out.
I love your little colored bowls – they always look so nice in your photos. Where did you get them?
I too am a Migraine sufferer-have been since pre-mentrual age (TMI? sorry). Every month I’d get one around the same time. Not even my imitrex shots helped. Lost feeling in my left side, constant vomiting (also, TMI?) , slurring my words, aka disaster. several of these occasions resulted in ER ambulance rides and IV hook-ups like nobodys biz. Its pretty sad when you appreciate the bouts of vomiting for their ability to take your mind off the pain/knife in your brain. Several CT scans confirmed that I didn’t have a tumor (thank god) but that didn’t really help in solving my condition. Once I got my period, they became less severe but still there. These things are completely debilitating (sp?) What has helped a little is an increase in estrogen via birth control. Not sure why, but perhaps this might help a little? No one should have to suffer through a migraine. Also… if you can afford it-MASSAGES. My dad once stayed by my bed rubbing my back, neck and head all night (spinal cord might be constricted) and it definitely eased some of the pain. I feel your pain love… Hydrate, hydrate hydrate and nourish with plenty of grains, omegas and even sea veggies!
love MA
ive never had a migraine but my hubby gets bad sinus headaches. they put him out of commission for the day! hope you feel better.
Glad you’re feeling a bit better. I get migraines too and have Imitrex shots in case of emergency but I normally stick with Excedrine Migraine. Seriously…I could kiss the makers of Excedrine Migraine because they’ve saved my sanity so many times. I love those gel eye masks as well…same as putting an icepack on your face but the mask really gets down into the pocket of your eye socket to soothe away the pain.
oh I hope that you are feeling better soon. I have a good friend that suffers from migraines and from what I have seen – they are HORRIBLE. Hopefully some rest will do you good and you will be back in action in no time!
I used to get migraines a few times a month. You are not going to want to hear this…but when I stopped drinking wine the migraines disappeared almost completely! I guess the sulfides can cause migraines even when the wine only has sulfides that occur naturally. I hope you feel much better very soon!
I hope you feel better! I got migraines when I was younger. They suck. Eventually my mom took me to a naturopath and they tested me for allergies. Turned out I was HIGHLY allergic to eggs. I still cant eat them. Anymore than one egg a week and I’ll get a migraine. When I was younger they couldnt even touch my food or it would be a week of pain.
Hope you feel better Jenna!
i think taking the day off from bikram would be a good decision! feel better though
Ice packs and triangle pose? I will have to try that the next time I get a migraine. Imitrex/ Excedrin migraine (don’t worry, not at the same time!) don’t cut it for me!
I totally feel you on the migraines, Jenna. They are the WORST. I wanted to tell you that I often got them after doing bikram yoga and I was convinced it was somehow related to the fact that I somehow dehydrated myself. So, maybe trying drinking A TON of water? I actually take prescription medicine for mine, but the ones I got after bikram were a bit different. Anyway, I know it seems pretty ordinary, but sometimes bikram is intense, we don’t even realize how much water we lost.
Hope you feel better soon!
Ugh, migraines are the worst, I’m so sorry.
I’ve stopped taking migraine medication (unless I’m in a situation where I really need it), but I find that a cup of coffee and some really strong cups of ginger tea (just grated ginger root or powder in water) keep the worst of the pounding and nausea away.
I hope you feel better soon!
I’m sorry to hear you’re still not feeling in great shape. Rest is probably the best thing you can do.
Hi Jenna,
I hope you feel better soon, the symptoms sound awful
I just wanted to say Hi, I started reading your blog about a week ago, and I find it so informative on how to eat healthy and look after your body! I’m on a mission to try and get healthy as I need to loose alot of weight. Thanks for everything you share here – I hope to get some time over the holidays to read though some of your older posts.
Take care!
Chantel
aww hope u feel better!! Walk the line is def a great movie! tho maybe not with a migraine!
Sorry, Migraines suck….feel better:-) Aloha
So sorry to hear about your migraine. Hope to hear a good report about it in the morning!!
Getting homesicks is totally understandable girl! I think you’re taking the right steps to dealing with it though, aka staying active and getting out of the house. Keep truckin’
Sorry to hear about your migraine! I too get them once in awhile. I read in one of Joel Fuhrman’s books that tea can be a migraine trigger for some people, and I found it to be true! Even decaf. Now I drink ginger, cinnamon, and such non-leaf teas. But then again, I have lots of food triggers, but just in case, I thought I would share. Hope the rest of the week was migraine-free!
I haven’t seen walk the line yet, but I guess I will have to see it. Most of the reviews I read say it is really great.
