Twas The Week Before Christmas…

December 14, 2009

Is Christmas seriously next week? Seriously?!

This is the first Christmas that I’m not going home….instead, my parents are coming here for a California Christmas :)

This morning, had some grapefruit—

I love grapefruit and prepare it the way my mom always did for me—letting it sit overnight with a squeeze of honey on top for sweetness.

A cup of greek yogurt with a cup of Kashi Go Lean, pom seeds, raspberries and a drizzle of agave!

I’m letting my cereal digest a bit then I’m going to hit the gym then back home to write all day. Determined to be productive!

I can’t believe Christmas is so close, either.

Evan Thomas December 14, 2009 at 7:39 am

That bowl looks fresh and delicious
I can’t believe how fast this month is going by! I’m losing my head in finals

Rosey Rebecca December 14, 2009 at 7:41 am

I can’t believe Christmas is next week either. My boyfriend and I don’t have any decorations in our apartment because we’re going to our families’ houses for the holidays. The only time I feel like it’s about to be Christmas is when I go to the mall.

You’ve inspired me to let a grapefruit sit overnight and add honey to it. I’ve been trying to like them! This may work!

Caroline December 14, 2009 at 7:43 am

Wow, I definitely didn’t realize Christmas was only a week away. It never really feels like Christmastime until I come home from school.

MelissaNibbles December 14, 2009 at 7:43 am

I love your fruity breakfast. YUM!

skinnyrunner December 14, 2009 at 7:45 am

Janna December 14, 2009 at 7:45 am

I had a very similar breakfast! Was totally craving fruit and yogurt.
Same here, can’t believe it! How is 2009 almost over!? Wha? :)

Mary (Food Fit and Fun) December 14, 2009 at 7:47 am

That’s great that your family is going to California for Christmas!! I bet you are so excited to see them. I am also in shock that it’s already next week! I am still in school until Thursday…definitely not enough time off before Christmas!! I need time to relax, bake & eat cookies, and shop ! hahaha

Megan (The Runner's Kitchen) December 14, 2009 at 7:49 am

On Saturday I went to a recipe demo and dessert tasting at the French Culinary Institute and everything on the menu contained grapefruit and chocolate. It was amazing! I have new found love for the ruby red fruit :-) I’ve heard that broiling it with a bit of sugar is delicious.

Jenna December 14, 2009 at 7:53 am

that breaky looks great! have a very productive day!

VeggieGirl December 14, 2009 at 7:58 am

Um, definitely just used that same bowl today for my cereal – same color and everything :)

Writing all day for me too!! Good luck, my dear.

Liz December 14, 2009 at 7:59 am

Christmas is next week?! News to me…:-p. Hope you’re productive today, I hate when there is pressure to be productive!

Carolyn December 14, 2009 at 8:00 am

I just got some grapefruits from the church youth group. I’ll have to try the overnight thing, maybe with some agave nectar?

Matt December 14, 2009 at 8:07 am

That is awesome your parents are coming for Christmas :)

Heather @ The Joyful Kitchen December 14, 2009 at 8:13 am

These pictures are GORGEOUS! Also, I really enjoy my grapefruit with a light sprinkling of raw sugar on top…I like the crunch it makes! :)

christie, honoring health December 14, 2009 at 8:15 am

I know, it is totally crazy to me that Christmas is next week. This year has totally flown by!

Diana @ frontyardfoodie December 14, 2009 at 8:16 am

I’m in love with grapefruits this time of year. Since I’ve been eating them each winter for a bit they now make my nostalgic for Christmas.

Shannon (The Daily Balance) December 14, 2009 at 8:17 am

Here’s to a productive day!!!

Ashley December 14, 2009 at 8:28 am

Hmm, maybe I would actually like grapefruit that way? For some reason I have never been able to really get into it. I am in SHOCK that xmas is NEXT week…Since moving out to Colorado time has FLOWN by. Have a great week!

Whit December 14, 2009 at 8:30 am

Is grapefruit not the best stuff ever or what? I am currently in love with it again. Ah, my yearly love affair with citrus.

Courtney (The Hungry Yogini) December 14, 2009 at 8:38 am

I can’t believe it’s almost Christmas either!!! It doesn’t feel like it with this 80* weather!

So glad your parents are comin’ out to visit for Christmas. What a fun way to spend Christmas. Can’t wait to read all about it =)

Wishing you a very productive day, J!

theemptynutjar December 14, 2009 at 8:40 am

Hillary @ Nutrition Nut on the Run December 14, 2009 at 8:47 am

I can’t believe Christmas is nearly here too! Pretty, RED breakfast.

Susan December 14, 2009 at 8:50 am

I can’t believe Christmas is next week too! It kind of makes me a little sad.
I have to try that with the grapefruit – it looks major yumbo!

Marisa (Loser for Life) December 14, 2009 at 8:53 am

Christmas? So. not. ready. Any votes to push it off until January 25??? Anyone?? :)

Mackenzie December 14, 2009 at 8:58 am

Your breakfast looks so refreshing! Definitely unlike the Florid weather right now :( You’re not missing too much weather-wise right now! Hahaha.

Vanessa (Last Night's Leftovers) December 14, 2009 at 9:13 am

Oh damn, Christmas IS next week. =|

Katy @ These Beautiful Feet December 14, 2009 at 9:30 am

I am not a grapefruit fan but that sounds interesting. Do you let the honey soak in overnight or add that in that in the morning? Grapefruit is how oats are(were) to me. I wanted to like them because it’s super healthy but I can’t! Well, tomatoes and oats are starting to really grow on me. I will have to try this overnight honey grapefruit thing. :)

Kristen @ Change of Pace December 14, 2009 at 9:35 am

Ahh don’t remind me! I can’t believe the year is almost over. Where in the world did it go?

katelyn December 14, 2009 at 9:36 am

Marissa December 14, 2009 at 9:49 am

I bet honey and grapefruit taste great together. I will have to try it!

Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope December 14, 2009 at 10:11 am

OMG, that breakfast looks fabulous! I just tried grapefruit for the first time recently and didn’t really like the taste, but I should try it with your honey method.

Chelsea December 14, 2009 at 10:28 am

Hopefully we’ll have good weather for them!

Britt - Runnerbelle December 14, 2009 at 10:31 am

Crap, I seriously just had to look at the calendar…… it really truly is only a week away! Um I need to start shopping, I don’t want to be stuck in all the traffic and craziness. I must shop online tonight and hit up my downtown, gotta keep some of it local. ;-)

Julia December 14, 2009 at 10:35 am

Thanks for the honey&grapefruit advice, will try that. The grapefruits here are even less sweet than those in Florida, so it’s a great idea:)

I swear Christmas came faster than usual this year!! I am not ready yet!!!

sassy molassy December 14, 2009 at 11:20 am

When I read your post title, I mentally said “It is NOT the week before Christmas.” Then I promptly looked to my wall calendar and thought, “holy crap, it is!” Thank goodness I did a majority of my xmas shopping this weekend!

Megan (BitesoftheApple) December 14, 2009 at 11:32 am

I LOVE LOVE LOVE grapefruit and have been seriously craving one lately!! I wanted citrus so bad yesterday I was afraid I had scurvy :D

I satisfied my craving w/ an orange, but I def want to try the honey trick…usually I just eat it plain!

hungryforbalance.wordpress.com December 14, 2009 at 11:37 am

Light Delight with TouTou December 14, 2009 at 11:54 am

Lauren @ louisianagrown December 14, 2009 at 12:53 pm

Megan (BitesoftheApple) December 14, 2009 at 12:55 pm

Haha i just read that and was like, oh silly Jenna, Christmas is not next week. BUT IT IS. INSANE.

Leah December 14, 2009 at 3:10 pm

That breakfast looks so good! I love raspberries!

Jil December 14, 2009 at 3:17 pm

I know I cannot believe Christmas is so close! Ahh. That is such a good idea, letting the grapefruit sit out with honey. I just might have to try it! The yogurt looks so good too!!

Julie December 14, 2009 at 9:58 pm

Watch out! Your cereal has a notorious reputation for room clearing gas that lasts for hours and hours. Many a blog post has been made on this topic. And many people have written to Kellogs/Kashi looking for answers (it’s specific to Kashi Go Lean Crunch). So if you tooted during a down dog this afternoon, you know the culprit. I hope you’re one of the lucky few immune to Kashi GoToot Crunch.
