Welcome To Dry Creek Valley

September 30, 2009

Helloooo!!

I survived my first day of work! I get paid to promote adult beverages….and then I get sent home with some more…what could be better?! ;)

Yes, now we operate a wine bar out of the house. Totally normal.

In all seriousness, my day went really really well. I feel right at home at Michel Schlumberger and everyone I work with is really nice. Today I tasted the entire collection of wines….it was awesome. I think I’m going to do a little bit of everything, including fun social media stuff, so that’s good. Tomorrow I get to experience my first event at the winery and this weekend I’m pouring wine at the Sonoma County Harvest Fair. I can’t even believe that not even a week ago I had such a totally different life. Crazy!

I grabbed lunch with my boss at the most Jenna place ever!!

IMG_3886

I LOVED this place!!!! It’s a really old general store with all sorts of fun foodie surprises inside. I spotted tea infused dark chocolate, kombucha, gourmet cheeses and the best sandwiches ever. I got a turkey sandwich with some sort of spicy spread, feta cheese and thick slices of tomatoes. It was delicious and I inhaled it!

SO GOOD! This place might be dangerous.

I left work around 5:30, wine in hand, and snacked on an apple on my way home. I got home, kicked off my heels, poured myself a glass of viognier and waited for the boys to get home.

IMG_3896

We were going to cook tonight but everyone was too wiped out so we just headed downtown to Russian River Brewery for some PIZZA!

IMG_3904

This had cheese, caramelized onions and black olives on it. It was deeeeelicious!

I’m one lucky girl with two dates:

IMG_3906

I also got a half house salad:

I love how FRESH all the produce is here!!! Seriously, I’ve eaten the best tomatoes of my entire life since I moved to California. So, so sweet!

I’m totally wiped out!!! Ray Charles is still blasting on surround sound but I think I’m going to have to call it a night…..one of my coworkers is picking me up at 8am tomorrow and I really wanted to run first but honestly, exercise just isn’t my primary focus right now. Moving cross country, living out of a suitcase, relying on other people for rides and starting a new job is totally sapping all of my energy. I still have a long run planned for Sunday morning though!

The boys say they want me to film them having an Amazing Grass chugging contest in the morning. Get ready! ;)

Jenna,
I am so jealous of the fresh fruits and tomatoes that you can get out there in CA. I live in NY and we only get that stuff in the summer when the farmers’ markets are going on. Winter is long and boring in the produce dept for us. Plus your job sounds like a dream come true. I know that you are going to love it and am thinking of planning a trip out to Heraldsburg right now to visit all the great winieries that you have mentioned! So awesome!

Good Luck!

Cynthia (It All Changes) October 1, 2009 at 7:13 am

Little Places like that have the best food. So fresh and yummy with interesting not mass produced flavors.

Sounds like you are in love with your new life already :-)

Jenna October 1, 2009 at 10:37 am

Does Michel Schlumberger want to employ all the food bloggers!?!? Seriously, your job sounds so fun!

And to get all of that great wine too!?!? You are a lucky girl!

Amanda @ Cakes and Ale October 1, 2009 at 10:42 am

Jenna – you are living the LIFE! Sounds so amazing.

Nothing beats a pizza after a long day too, huh?!

Stephanie October 1, 2009 at 10:47 am

That sandwich makes me think of the Eggplant Spread at Trader Joe’s – a must try now that you are in California. If you do buy it, pick up some crimini mushrooms. I stuff the crimini mushrooms with the spread and top with some breadcrumbs and bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes. YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!!

Shana Ray October 1, 2009 at 11:16 am

Welcome to my life Jenna! I know I will be seeing you in about 45 minutes at the winery, I wanted to take a moment to say hello and welcome you to the area. Let me know if you ever have any questions about restaurants, wineries, farms, people, etc.

And, yes, Northern California has some of the best tomatoes ever!

Kat (Kat's Daily Plate) October 1, 2009 at 11:27 am

So happy to hear you had a wonderful first day of work! I totally understand about exercise- when I am stressed and have a lot going on, it just can’t take precedence. I do what I can, when I can :) .

Katie October 1, 2009 at 11:35 am

pssshhhhh who needs an apartment of your own when you can live with two fun guys?!?!?! that place where you got your sandwich looks so neat!!

Rachel October 1, 2009 at 11:56 am

Hi Jenna!

I love reading your blog. Welcome to the Bay area – I have lived here for a little over 3 years now (I can’t believe it’s been that long.) I moved here from the east coast too. You’re right about the tomatoes – produce in general here is just fresh and amazing. It’s one of my favorite things about living here.

Michel Schlumberger’s looks great, I will have to check it out sometime.

Anyhow, welcome to the area. Whenever you are settled if you have some free time, I would love to meet you – we could get coffee or go for a run :) Let me know if you would be interested!

Alicia October 1, 2009 at 2:09 pm

sounds like you are having a great time!! can’t wait to watch the amazing grass chugging contest! :)

Alison October 1, 2009 at 6:02 pm

I recently returned home from my first trip to California – we had a running joke that the trip was “Alison’s Salad Experiement” because ALL I ordered was salad – you’re so right about the produce! The AVACADOS! Oh my gosh! Try a California Seafood Cobb salad if you ever see it on the menu:-)

Krissy - Single Serving October 1, 2009 at 6:54 pm

This job sounds like a dream. I’m not gonna lie – I’m totally jealous!! Hope you have time to settle in soon.

We visited Sonoma Valley and San Fran two years ago and I must agree that the fresh produce out there is AMAZING!! Definitely a perk to being on the West Coast!

Sarah @ See Sarah Eat October 2, 2009 at 12:31 pm

Getting paid to taste wine and take wine home sounds like the best job ever! I am so proud of you Jenna, you really went for your dreams and you have done so much in a short amount of time. Good for you!
