Behind The Butter

what’s in my makeup bag

Like most girls, I love to play with makeup. Granted, I really don’t know what I’m doing when I play with it, but I do love to experiment!

Sabrina gave me this cute polka dot makeup bag last summer and in it I store all my goodies.  I don’t really wear too much makeup on a normal day (newsflash: standing over a hot stove while wearing lots of mascara just doesn’t really work), but whenever I go out I have my normal regimen that I stick to.

And trust me, you don’t WANT to see me without any under-eye concealer. It’s a scary thing.

So on my face, I use Bare Minerals powder, ulta mineral blush and almay concealer. Been using these three products every day for years and love them all!

Now, what I really love to play with is my eyes! After hanging out with my friend Morgan in Austin a few weeks ago and letting her do my make-up every day, I became addicted to two new products: purple creme eyeliner and MAC swiss chocolate eyeshadow.

So basically, to get my everyday look, I’ll brush this pale pink eyeshadow all over my lid (Benefit “Leggy”) then brush a little bit of the swiss chocolate shade across the top of my lid to contour. Then, I’ll draw an ever-so-thin line of creme eyeliner (Smashbox “Midnight Purple”) across my top and bottom lash line…and then finish with black mascara!

Always black mascara.

Lips are easy.

Been using this gloss since high school (well, not the same one but..you know) and love it. I’ve never really been a lipstick girl but I love watermelon flavored lip gloss!

Oh! And while we’re talking about it, I have to show you the newest product I’m absolutely obsessed with:

I never truly lived until I found out about dry shampoo. I got this from Ulta (I really need to distance myself from that store) and love it. You’ll probably tell me it’s just talc in a spray bottle but I don’t care. I like my fancy spray talc.

And on that note, I’m off to apply another coat of waterproof mascara and stand in front of the stove.

I feel like discovering dry shampoo was how early man felt when discovering fire. Life without it almost seems meaningless… or at least a life with much shinier, flatter hair.
Don’t waste your money on the new TreSemme kind- I gave it a whirl b/c it was cheap and it’s awful. Sammy also makes a good one that I always get at Ulta (where I never leave without spending upwards of $100).

I am a makeup and beauty products junkie! I have tons of products and always love seeing what everyone else uses and their rec’s. Like that dry shampoo…good to know you love it. Anything to get even just 1 more day before hair wash day is a great thing 🙂

I love MAC, with a passion. Have posted many times before of my love for it and have 2 huge trunks full of it. No shame.

I love gloss and if you’re looking for an awesome gloss that is one of my go-to’s…MAC lipgloss in the color “Prrr”. I mean, anything with a name like that is gonna be fun 🙂

Bahahah. Melting mascara from the oven makes me laugh so hard everytime. Last weekend I thought I actually melted my left eye shut. Dinner turned out well but I ended up looking like one of those creepy baby dolls with overly dramatic eyelashes whose eyes open and shut when you lay them down or pick them up. Attractive.

On another note – I’m addicted to Ulta. Specifically Benefit products. I like feeling like one of the pin-up girls on the packaging (and not a creepy lashed doll). I would agree that dry shampoo is amazing. Simply amazing. You should try Benefits Erase Paste for under your eyes. It works magic. I go from zombie to normal well-rested human with one quick swipe!

I’m completely obsessed with dry shampoo too! I’ve tried several different kinds including the powder kind. In fact, I’ll even resort to baby powder at times. Oh yeah, and that one time I was traveling and I was forced to resort to using baking soda (because baking soda is a totally normal thing to have in your toiletries bag)! Not recommending the baking soda…. but it did it’s job. But the whole point of this comment is there is a cheap dry shampoo that I think works just as well as the $25 at Sephora/Ulta. It’s called Psssssst and it’s $7 at CVS or Walgreens! Psssssst is usually on the bottom shelf, you gotta kinda search it out, but it’s one of the best things ever!!!

I have to agree. Your blog has changed in a major way, and in many ways the change has been great. I am not a fan of food journaling, but the reason I read blogs is to get some one’s personal “story.” You write well and you are funny, but I find myself not checking your blog as much because it doesn’t seem as personal….posts like these are a nice surprise, thought!

Dry shampoo huh? is this for use after getting a bit sweaty after working out, but not really needing/wanting to wash and style hair all over again? I might need to seek this stuff out…is there an Ulta in Santa Rosa now? And of all the MAC eyeshadows I own, I seem somehow to have missed Swiss Chocolate…i think this merits purchase now based on the name alone! lol….and my new favorite mascara is Lancome’s Hypnose…I just discovered a sample of it that I had stashed somewhere and never used…omg let me just tell you it is genius stuff. Long, thick lashes, no clumps! Makes me look as though i’ve applied false eyelashes and that’s saying a lot…my eyelashes are meager at best. As for eyeliner I’m currently addicted to Lancome’s Artliners…liquid eyeliner in pen format…so easy to use and stays put! I have it in Aubergine and Icecarob….great colors for green-eyed girls.

I rarely wear makeup except for special occasions. I really have no reason too – seeing as I’m always at the gym, at church and because I’m a massage therapist, I believe a fresh, clean face is a healthy one. I keep it practical because I’m very budget conscious right now – yet that still doesn’t mean I don’t doll up or don’t want to doll up. I love dolling up when I get the chance!

I like how your routine is a minimal one. In the case where I do want to splurge on makeup again (Yes, I even consider Ulta a splurge as you can rack up a tab with makeup and beauty products in there!) , I feel as if your everyday look (your everyday eye makeup for instance) would be a realistic splurge for me. 🙂
