Yep, still in bed. This my good morning face!!! Or maybe it’s my “I-woke-up-at-5:45-and-it-was-thundering-and-lightening-so-I-couldn’t-run face”. 😉
Ahhhh yes…..the rain. What do you other runners do when you wake up and it’s storming? I suppose if I were hard core I would go running anyway but for me it’s a great excuse to roll back over! I decided to just go for round two tomorrow morning and use today as a rest day!
There was coffee with organic half & half and agave in bed….
(subconsciously I wish I was drinking Liar’s Dice)
And more overnight oats!
LOVE this! Leftover steel cut oats make the PERFECT bowl of overnight oats and are much faster than soaking rolled oats overnight in milk! All I do is mix the leftover, cold steel cut oats with a half cup of green yogurt and top with almond butter, cinnamon, pure maple syrup and banana. yesssss!
Had moments of nostalgia this morning while pulling some notebooks out of a box and found this:
I can’t even believe it’s been exactly two years now since I was in school. Feels like just yesterday I was sawing on oxtails for Meat Fabrication class….
Good times, good times. This is Le Cordon Bleu in all its glory right here. 😉
I have a few projects going on this weekend that I need to work on today. I might even go to my “office” (cough cough) at Starbucks. I’m sort of glad I didn’t run this morning because I’ve been really productive in getting some writing and outlines done…..and hanging out in your bed when it’s raining on a Saturday morning always feels like a treat, no?
Onward!

September 12, 2009 at 9:40 amHA! Love the culinary school photo – hooray for nostalgia 😀
Good luck with your projects!

September 12, 2009 at 9:43 amI would definitely run anyway. I love running in the rain! Plus, if it storms on race day, you can’t roll back over, so I think it’s best to have some practice with all types of weather.

September 12, 2009 at 9:49 amI seriously love that picture of you! It’s so natural! 🙂
I’m totally with you that thunder and lightning when I wake up equals a little more R&R time in bed. 😉 Have a fabulous Saturday!
Matt (Health Blog Helper)
September 12, 2009 at 9:55 amThat’s just about the same as I do… pull the covers over my head, secretly be a little bit happy about it, and shift around my schedule to do the workout the next day. Nothing wrong with a little surprise time off!
That Le Cordon Bleu is intense! I wonder if culinary schools have vegetarian programs where you are exempt from that kind of stuff??
jenna
September 12, 2009 at 10:00 amMatt,
Le Cordon Bleu trains chef in classic French style so no……vegetarians are actually failed, not going to lie. You HAVE to try everything or else you get an F. Just the way of the game. However, there are some culinary schools specially geared towards vegetarians and healthy eating!

September 12, 2009 at 9:58 amMy morning face this morning was not happy. It looked good enough to run even though I knew it wouldn’t be, so I went. Shortly it started pouring and I was drenched for 6.4 miles. Ugh. So happy to be dry now
Nicole
September 12, 2009 at 10:02 amI don’t blame you at all for not running in that weather! Take this day off, and relax! However, if it is like that tomorrow, you might want to think about running on the tready. 😉 I thought that I might have to run my half marathon today in that weather, but I lucked out!! Running in the rain SUCKS!

September 12, 2009 at 10:05 amThat breakfast looks fabulous! I’ve been too hot for oatmeal but I keep forgetting about the wonderfulness of overnight oats.

September 12, 2009 at 10:09 amits raining in Boston too and I did the same thing with my 10 miler! oh well 🙂
Matt
September 12, 2009 at 10:11 amIt has to be raining pretty damn hard for me to skip a run. I usually go out anyways!
Leianna
September 12, 2009 at 10:20 amI sleep in when it’s raining too.
Have fun at the “office” today;)
Lizzie
September 12, 2009 at 10:24 amWell, it was raining and storming a bit this morning and I was supposed to do a short tempo run. But since I didn’t do strength yesterday, I just switched that to this morning (since it’s an indoor activity) and then tomorrow I’ll be joining you on your long run! 🙂
Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down)
September 12, 2009 at 10:45 amDepends on the rain, I guess! If it’s thundering and lightning, I’ll call it a rest day or plan on a run later in the day. But if it’s just drizzling, I’ll go anyway because a run in the rain can actually be really refreshing. 😀
But if you can work it around a rest day, then that’s fine too of course! 😀 Some days I just don’t feel like getting wet, so I’ll sub in a rest day for a workout day. It all pans out. 😉
Rebecca
September 12, 2009 at 10:49 amI love sleeping in when it’s storming/snowing out. Love both pics of you!

September 12, 2009 at 10:59 amIt’s raining in San Antonio and I ran 7 miles today. I need to catch up on running since I am running the Nike Women’s marathon in October. It’s good you didn’t run because you should not run in lightening. But if it’s just raining it’s okay. Most races won’t get canceled for rain. But you can always run tomorrow. 🙂
Valerie (College Girl Eats)
September 12, 2009 at 11:07 amOh yes, right now I’m sitting in bed with the laptop looking out at the rain as well! Gotta love Saturdays! I like your idea of cooking up a whole batch of oats and then eating it through the week. Do you think this would work as well with old-fashioned oats though? Or would they just get too soggy by the end?
Kristin (Kristin's Nibbles)
September 12, 2009 at 11:08 amI roll over when it’s raining too, it’s not just you!
And YUM on those overnight oats =)
I can’t wait til culinary school!!

September 12, 2009 at 11:19 amRainy Saturday mornings are one of the best things ever!
Instead of the normal feeling of having to rush to pack everything in, it makes you slow down, relax and enjoy the morning 🙂
Have a lovely day Jenna!

September 12, 2009 at 11:37 amRain is always my excuse to not run. I try to get to the gym that day but I like the excuse somedays.
How cool is thatto be in culinary school! I watch shows like Hell’s Kitchen and Top Chef to live vicariously through chefs.
Lizzy
September 12, 2009 at 11:37 amI would have rolled right back over too. running in the rain isn’t for me!!!!
Culinary school must have been such a blast! I think it would be such a blast to go to culinary school one day. hope your day goes awesome
Lori
September 12, 2009 at 11:39 amI like running in the rain if it is warm and not coming down to hard. I have gotten caught in torrential downpours and it is not fun! I wouldn’t head out if it was thundering and lightning. Much nicer to stay in bed and listen to it.
Jolene (everydayfoodie.ca)
September 12, 2009 at 11:40 amI think it is so cool that you went to culinary school – That would be a dream of mine!

September 12, 2009 at 11:48 amRain here in Austin so it was a tready day:)…
You don’t ever need a stitch of make-up, naturally beautiful!

September 12, 2009 at 11:49 amYum! Overnight steel cut oats look fantastic!! I have a question. So do you cook a batch of steel cut oats and then put them in the fridge and just eat them cold in the morning with all your fix-ins?? Is that what you mean by overnight steel cut oats?
I want to try them!!
Shawna
September 12, 2009 at 11:49 amAs a fellow Florida girl, I am all too familiar with the rainy days. I think I take way too much advantage of them actually 🙂 I also tried your savory oats this morning for the first time (sans soysage) and loved them!!
Madeline @ Greens and Jeans
September 12, 2009 at 12:12 pmI love running in the rain, but when lightening strikes I definitely sit the day out! PLUS a rainy day is a great day to spend at Starbucks drinking pumpkin spice lattes….
Sammie
September 12, 2009 at 12:34 pmI ran in the rain this morning and LOVED it. I find the rain on my face to be so refreshing. Plus I had the road to myself since it was still super early. It was much needed “me” time.
Susan
September 12, 2009 at 12:43 pmI obsessively check the weather network before my morning runs! I only run outside twice a week though, so it’s easy to move around with the weather. If it’s just spitting I’ll still go out. Pouring rain I don’t do, and it can get dangerous if lightning is involved :\
skinnyrunner
September 12, 2009 at 1:20 pmomg that picture makes you look super hardcore and like Gordon Ramsey or something!
Taylor
September 12, 2009 at 1:43 pmI have that mug in brown!! I love it 🙂

September 12, 2009 at 2:01 pmha ha- pouring here too this morning. i went out during what i thought was a break in the rain, which wasn’t! it was a very wet run, but i have to agree with some of the others that i love running in the rain (i actually wrung out my jacket on my cool down!).
do any of the garmin users out there know if they are waterproof? i can’t find my instruction book and i was shielding mine from the rain like my life depended on it (i don’t know what i would do if my little garmin died on me!).
Jenna
September 12, 2009 at 2:05 pmrainy saturday mornings are always nice to relax and take it easy!

September 12, 2009 at 2:10 pmI have lots of pics of myself like that from Culinary School too. Didn’t you just love how flattering (not!) the uniforms were?

September 12, 2009 at 2:39 pmI love that picture of you! I would have a hard time with that as a non-meat eater haha, but it’s still a fun pic! 🙂
Jessica
September 12, 2009 at 3:11 pmI would run…I ran in all kinds of conditions this past winter…one word: FROSTBITE!
Bonnie
September 12, 2009 at 3:44 pmif it’s just raining then I’ll often still go for a run in the summer, but you shouldn’t go for a run if you hear or see lightening. It’s dangerous.

September 12, 2009 at 4:20 pmWowwy that ox tail is very scary looking lol. That’s amazing though! Have a great day.. hope the rain cheers up soon 🙂
Julie @savvyeats
September 12, 2009 at 4:33 pmLike you, I’d roll over and be happy to get some more sleep. 🙂
So cool that you went to culinary school, its an idea I’ve been toying with recently…

September 12, 2009 at 4:43 pmWell, gotta tell ya – I live in So. Cal. It almost never rains here. A light rain, I might go for a short run…maybe not. I wouldn’t want to risk slipping and falling, truthfully (I live on a hill).
Okay, from November to March it might rain sometimes.
Depending on how I was feeling, I might also hit the gym and do some treadmill…but not 8 miles (which I did today).
Tara
September 12, 2009 at 5:33 pmI had the same thing happen to me this morning too! I was supposed to run 12, I got about 30 minutes into it and decided to hold off until tomorrow. It was really raining here in Boston today!
Pam (Highway to Health)
September 12, 2009 at 7:31 pmI LOVE your glasses! They are so cute.
I’m not sure if I would have been able to handle that oxtail – what an experience!
brandi
September 12, 2009 at 8:54 pmha, I don’t run if it’s storming either! There’s always tomorrow, which is I try to be as flexible with my training schedule as I can. You never know what the weather is going to be like, so you just do what you have to!
Morgan (lifeafterbagels)
September 12, 2009 at 9:52 pmoh gosh – what the heck is “meat fabrication” class?!?!
angieinatlanta
September 12, 2009 at 11:19 pmAw, you look cute in glasses!
I love sleeping in on rainy mornings; I find the sound of the rain so soothing and comforting! I’m sorry you didn’t get in your scheduled run but starting your day by sipping coffee in bed sounds pretty darn great to me!
