When in Doubt, Eat Dark Chocolate
Nov 4th, 2009 by jenna
Hey y’all! I saw some earlier tweets that the blog was down….I have no idea! It obviously isn’t down anymore so maybe it was just a high traffic period—no worries!
This afternoon I worked at the coffee shop on my latest True/Slant article, which sort of recaps the past few days of Top Chef action. While I wrote, I had a decaf nonfat hazelnut latte and an apple—

What did I do before Flying Goat Coffee?! Seriously.
And then tonight I had dinner at a friend’s house. Had a small glass of one of my very favorites, Layer Cake!

And to eat, Israeli couscous with dried blueberries, gorgonzola cheese and pine nuts with roast chicken and salad. It was deeelicious!

The most amazing chocolate EVER for dessert….

Dark chocolate, how I love thee. Especially when you are filled with Grappa and imported from Paris. mmmmmmmm

I’m calling it an early night tonight. I need to catch up on my sleep from the past few days of craziness and want to wake up early and go to the gym before my 9 am conference call before work.
Sweet dreams!

We have two cases of the Zin in our cellar! LOVE the stuff!!!
That couscous sounds soooo good–blueberries and cheese! As does dark chocolate, as usual
I bet you need to catch up some Zzzs! You’ve been a busy gal lately. Have a great workout tomorrow.
Need to look up this “Layer Cake” wine… sounds yum!
That gorgeous cup of coffee makes me smile. I’m going to pretend that there isn’t the word “goat” in the name.
Mmm israeli couscous – so chewy and delicious. I only discovered it a few months ago and now am learning how versatile it is. Ready in five, or slow prepare it with savory herbs, toast it first, have it with cinnamon for a sweet version. Warm and cold even.
I hope you have a good night full of peaceful dreams (and lots of ankle healing rest).
I love Dark Chocolate
That coffee looks so good right now, rich, and creamy and tasty!
I bet you do need to catch up on some ZZZZs, you’ve had such a crazy busy week!
mmm, I love the Layer Cake Malbec!
I love me some feta cheese
A hazlenut latte sounds so good right now. I love Starbucks, I’ll admit, for it’s drink predictability/consistency, but there really is nothing quite as special as having your own neighborhood cafe to curl up in.
That cous cous sounds insanely good, as does the chocolate! Get some rest you busy bee!
Oooo I want to try that Layer Cake wine. Looks good.
That coffee place sounds great!
I love chocolate for dessert — yum!
yummmmmmmm that couscous sounds SMOKING!
I have fridge magnet saying “When in doubt, drink more wine”
The couscous dish sounds interesting…I think I need to be more adventurous when cooking couscous!
that couscous is calling me!
layer cake wine?! sounds interesting!!
jenna
layer cake is one of my favorites!
I didn’t notice the blog being down at all …
And I totally agree about the dark chocolate!
Ooooh that chocolate looks wonderful. I’ve adopted your dessert philosophy about a piece of chocolate every day, and it has been MARVELOUS!
I’ve never been a dark chocolate fan . . . only milk chocolate, well really I’m not too bad with chocolate so I guess it’s okay . . . chips is my weakness, oh delicious crunchy salty chips.
Layer Cake is such a cute name for a bottle of wine!!
That dinner looks yummy!
Nice article! Also, I loooove Layer Cake, especially the Zinfandel! One of my absolute favorite wines.
Layer Cake is one of my favorite affordable wines. Delicious!
Happiness Awaits
Everything looks amazing as always!
Layer Cake is so tasty! (Why do I feel like I am always commenting on the booze in your posts?? Ha ha ha … !)
I love the care and attention little neighborhood coffee shops put into their drink creations :O). The latte looks beautiful!
Oh my gosh – that coffee is perfection! Isn’t beautiful looking coffee just the best thing ever? Especially when paired with a crispy apple
Primitivo is one of my favorite wines! Italian zinfandel, right? I guess they transplanted the grapes to CA?
Then again, all Italian grapes are my favorites!
Your food has been looking and sounding AMAAZING. And chocolate will cure whatever ails you
mmmm…that couscous sounds great! i need to make that more often!
After you had the Lindt dark chocolate with sea salt on your blog a few times, I went to the Lindt store to pick some up. But now, how am I going to find dark chocolate with grappa that’s from Paris?!
layer cake – never tried it.
it’s going on the list!
That couscous sounds amazing. Hopefully you got some good sleep! Have a great day:)
ah, that coffee looks amazing. it’s beautiful!! oh, and your dinner of couscous looks divine. i’m so jealous of the dark chocolate, as well, yummmm!
i will take chocolate, esp dark, with any meal whatever it is, whenever it is. yum.
That cous cous sounds wonderful. I love it when I have a healthy, well balanced meal with friends!
Jenna,
I can’t wait to see you tomorrow in San Fran at the Foodbuzz Festival…Safe Travels!
I just recently tried that layer cake! I was pretty impressed and in love
Your pictures are looking really good!
I’ve never seen that Layer Cake wine before, and I’ve been searching out wine lately, trying to find a good one. Thanks for the tip!
Dark Chocolate is the best – can’t say enough good things about it.
Oooh I love Layer Cake. We used to stock up on it in 3’s! That Grappa dark chocolate looks delish. Gotta find me some!
Yum on that chocolate! I’ve been trying to convince myself to by a Vosdges milk chocolate bacon bar, but 7.50 feels so expensive to pay for chocolate. I just rocked out my midterm so maybe I’ll “reward” myself with it
Wow – How much fun is your life in Northern Cali?!? I just tried Layer Cake Pinot last week, it is amazing!
First of all…I’m a BIG Layer Cake fan, too:) Love it! And, I was wondering what “Grappa” is?? Dinner looked very yummy. I love to try new variations of couscous. I hope your rainy day is shaping up!
Jenn
Your pictures are amazing!!! They are making me hungry
I roasted a whole chicken the other night and was reminded how awesome and cozy it tastes! Especially when you get a nice, free-range, organic birdy – there is no doubt it’s more flavorful, IMO!
Awww cute yummy looking chocolate :0)
gym=reality sets in but on the positive you are still living the dream! It’s crazy how even meals at your friend’s houses look ah-mazing. yummerrsss.
You inspire me to drink wine every day.
That coffee looks so pretty – it makes me want to drink it. I love those little patterns they put on it with the milk! That chocolate sounds amazing!
Hmmm I think I could get into this philosophy: dark chocolate to cure all ills.
